Basic Fingerprint Comparison

This course is for investigating officers and laboratory technicians who work with fingerprints and is designed for beginners. No experience is necessary. The objective is to train an officer or laboratory technician in fingerprint pattern typing and to compare and identify fingerprints. There will also be some basics on fingerprint testimony, such as with Pen Packets.

Note: This course does not include work with latent prints.

Cyber Crimes Investigations - Basic

This class is presented by a police officer with an extensive background in the information technology field. This course is designed to introduce law enforcement personnel, with a basic knowledge of computers, to the world of cyber crimes and their investigations. Some of the topics that will be covered: examples of cyber crimes; recognizing potential evidence in cyber crimes; identifying types of electronic hardware that can potentially contain forensic evidence; finding on-line evidence and internet crimes; and identifying physical crimes that have a cyber crime attachment. Students will be introduced to the basics of setting up a computer/network for on-line investigations, collecting and preserving evidence; and introduced to on-line investigative tools. Students will get hands-on training in deciphering emails, tracing domain names and ISP numbers.

Note: Students are encouraged to bring a wireless enabled laptop computer to the class, however, it is not necessary to have a laptop to attend the class.

INSTRUCTOR RON HILLEY is a retired FBI Agent/Polygraph Examiner and Interview & Interrogation Instructor. He is currently a Certified Polygraph Examiner, Security Consultant and continues to lecture throughout the United States and overseas on the topics of Interviewing and Interrogation.

Instructor: Dr. Lawrence J. Simon is a nationally recognized expert on sexual deviance and author of the book Murder by Numbers: Perspectives on Serial Sexual Violence. He has an extensive background in psychology, including a Master?s degree in Science in 1998 at Nova Southeastern. He recently completed his doctoral degree requirements in Clinical Psychology with a specialization in forensic psychology in Miami, Florida. He has interviewed and conducted research on hundreds of cold-blooded killers and violent sexual offenders within the Federal Bureau of Prisons and Florida Department of Corrections. His doctoral research project involved investigating personality differences and specific methodologies of weapons selection conducive to multiple homicides. Dr. Simon was featured in Univision regarding the aspects of mass murder, specifically related to the Virginia Tech massacre and was contacted by CNN to consult on the Nevada child pornography case and appeared on CNN discussing the minds of serial murderers.
